Each week, the Middle English Reading group provides the opportunity to practise the art of speaking Middle English out loud, where helpfully Lawrence and Sarah are there to correct and guide us in the right direction.
We take turns reading and translating a stanza each (at the moment we are working on Troilus and Criseyde) and then any difficulties or questions we have are discussed. It is a fun and informal atmosphere where we often modernise the situations happening to the characters. I for one am already seeing Troilus in a new light! It is a fantastic opportunity to really understand what Chaucer is saying and to explore multiple strands of the text.
